SKINCARE THAT TREATS THE WHOLE PERSON
Microneedling, the holistic way
Microneedling builds collagen from the outside. Acupuncture builds health from the inside. At Haven Acupuncture & Integrative Health, every microneedling session includes a full-body acupuncture treatment - because your skin is never separate from the rest of you.
Collagen production naturally declines as estrogen does - which is why so many women first notice texture changes in their 40s. Microneedling is one of the most effective ways to ask the body to keep making it.
This is minimally invasive skincare, done the way a Chinese Medicine practitioner does everything: treating the whole person, not just the surface.
BENEFITS OF HOLISTIC MICRONEEDLING
Holistic Microneedling promotes subtle, natural-looking changes that build over time:
Whole-body wellness - every treatment includes a full-body acupuncture treatment
Improved skin texture and elasticity
Softened fine lines (crow’s feet) and deeper lines (forehead “elevens,” nasolabial folds, neck lines)
Reduced scarring (acne or surgery)
More even skin tone, deeper hydration, a dewier look
Dramatically increased product absorption
WHY I PAIR MICRONEEDLING WITH ACUPUNCTURE
As an acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner, I don't treat skin in isolation - I can't, really. It's not how I was trained and it's not how bodies work. That's why every microneedling session at Haven includes a full-body acupuncture treatment, and why I may also suggest lifestyle guidance or cosmetic acupuncture (more on that below) along the way so you get the results you want.
WAIT - WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? MICRONEEDLING VS. COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE
If you've just learned I also offer cosmetic acupuncture, you might be wondering how it compares. Fair question - it's the one I answer most at consults.
Both microneedling and cosmetic acupuncture build collagen and both treat the whole person. The difference is emphasis.
Microneedling is the stronger choice for texture - scarring, enlarged pores, rough or sun-damaged skin. Cosmetic acupuncture excels at lifting and calming - toning and releasing facial muscles, easing puffiness, and settling the nervous system, which is why it's my first recommendation for perimenopausal skin changes. Many patients do both, in seasons.
You don't have to figure this out yourself. At your free consult, I'll advise you on which one I'd start with for you.
HOW DOES HOLISTIC MICRONEEDLING WORK?
First, a numbing, anesthetic cream is applied to your face and neck. While the numbing cream activates, super-fine acupuncture needles are gently placed in specific areas of the body to support whole body health. You’ll rest for approximately 25 minutes, then the numbing cream and acupuncture needles are removed and the microneedling treatment begins. Microneedling treatment itself is comfortable and quick, taking about 15 minutes to complete the face and neck.
A minimum of 3-4 Microneedling treatments (every 4-6 weeks) is recommended for best results, before moving on to a maintenance plan.
WHAT TO EXPECT ALONG THE WAY:
Microneedling works by invitation, not force - each treatment asks your skin to rebuild itself, and your skin answers over the weeks that follow.
After treatment 1: A day or two of post-treatment glow (and mild redness), then noticeably smoother texture as the first wave of collagen arrives around week 3–4.
Treatments 2–3: Fine lines begin to soften. Acne scars and uneven tone start to fade. Skin holds moisture better.
Treatment 4 and beyond: Deeper lines and older scars respond. This is where the cumulative work shows — collagen keeps building for months after your last session.
Most patients complete 3–4 treatments, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, then shift to seasonal maintenance.
IS HOLISTIC MICRONEEDLING RIGHT FOR YOU?
This is for you if you are looking for a holistic, all-natural approach to well-aging and overall wellness.
Individuals who are not eligible for microneedling include pregnant women (although nanoneedling is an option, please inquire), those with hemophilia or contagious skin diseases, or those who have undergone other cosmetic procedures such as injections and surgical procedures in the past 2-4 weeks. If you have questions about any of these, I am more than happy to discuss these individually.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS?
Microneedling is generally safe when performed by a trained professional, but there are some potential risks, including:
Redness and irritation - this is common immediately after treatment, but subsides quickly. In some cases, it may last 1-3 days.
Bleeding - minor pinpoint bleeding is normal, more excessive bleeding can occur if taking blood thinners.
To minimize risks, it’s important to have microneedling done by a licensed professional and follow proper aftercare, including sun protection and avoiding harsh skincare products.
